Student Achievements

We are so proud of our talented dancers as each year several of our students are accepted into summer dance programs throughout the country. Most recently, the following students received the honors below.

•  Congratulations to Caroline Anderson for being awarded 2nd place in her age group at the Maryland Dance Festival which includes a $100 cash award and 2-week scholarship to City Dance in Washington DC.
•  Congratulations to Abby Pinkerton who received 4th place in her age group at the Maryland Dance Festival which earned her a 3-week scholarship to Ballet Chesapeake.
• Congratulations to Zack Johnson and Kristin Bjerke for their acceptance into the University of the Arts where they will continue their dance training.  They both received artistic scholarships and we are so proud of their hard work and dedication.  Good luck to you both!

•  Congratulations to Jordan Aro on winning a $250 scholarship from the Diane Drulis Foundation!

•  Congratulations to Bailee Sten for her acceptance into St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD.  She received a $20,000 scholarship and plans to major in history education.  We are very proud of her and know that she will make us proud!
•  Congratulations to our dancers that participated this year in the festival.  Awards winners are: Emily Bordley $100 cash scholarship,  Zack Johnson received a one-week scholarship to DE Dance Company and Emily Lindsay was awarded a one-week scholarship to Mid-Atlantic Ballet Company.  
•  Congratulations goes to Emily Bordley for her acceptance into Point Park University! She received a $52,000 artistic talent scholarship! We couldn't be more proud! Way to go Emily!
•  Sarah Kate Smigiel was accepted into Point Park University with an artistic talent scholarship worth $48,000! It is even more impressive to know that only about 7.5% of those who audition are accepted. We are extremely proud of her and can't be more excited to see what her dance future holds. Congratulations Sarah Kate!

•  Congratulations to Emily Bordley for receiving a $500 dance scholarship from the Diane Drulis Foundation for the 2013-2014 dance year!

•  Congratulations to Jada and Maya Allen as they have the opportunity to use their gift of dance to perform at district and sectional Fine Arts Festivals. This is a discipleship tool designed to "help students discover, develop and deploy their ministry gifts," through the Assemblies of God church. In August, Jada and Maya will be traveling to Orlando, FL to perform in the Nat'l Fine Arts Festival at the Nat'l Youth Convention. Each of the girls will be performing a solo piece as well as a duet together.

•  Congratulations to Sarah Schmitz for receiving the Linehan Scholarship at UMBC which is given to individuals who distinguish themselves both academically and artistically. She will be awarded $5,000 per year for studying dance. As part of her scholarship she will get special housing and get to attend art shows and performances for free.

•  Congratulations to Emily Bordley who won a scholarship from the Delaware Dance Festival to the Delaware Dance Company’s summer intensive.

•  Congratulations to Kristin Bjerke who was accepted into the 2012 Saratoga Springs Ballet Summer Intensive program in New York. Kristin received four weeks of intensive training from an amazing faculty of professionals. Auditions were held around the country for this prestigious program so we were thrilled that Kristin was accepted!

•  Sarah Kate Smigiel won a $1,000 scholarship from the Diane Drulis Foundation in 2011 to help her advance her dance education. She was also accepted into the Rock West Summer Jazz Intensive Program (one of over 50 dancers auditioning for this program). Congratulations Sarah Kate!

MARYLAND DANCE FESTIVAL
Each year our studio participates in this state event where guest dancers and choreographers from around the country are invited to perform and teach.  Dancers attending the festival have a schedule that is packed with master classes, workshops, auditions, performances, and lectures all to gain additional dance experience and knowledge.

Age 12-13:

  • Abby Pinkerton received a scholarship for a 1 week summer intensive at “24/7 Dance Studios” (valued at $425)

Age 16+:

  • Emily Bordley received a scholarship for Point Park International Summer Intensive – ½ tuition towards 6 week program (valued at $1000)
  • Kristin Bjerke received a scholarship for a 2 weej advanced Summer Intensive at “Project C Studios” (valued at $880)
  • Rachel Schmitz received a scholarship for a 1 week summer intensive at “24/7 Dance Studios” (valued at $425)
  • Sydney Brannen received a scholarship to attend a NYCDA Regional Convention (valued at $300)

Kelsey Stenta: Won the George & Wally Dashiell Scholarship, which is presented to the dancer with the overall highest score!  Kelsey also was awarded a cash prize for first place in her age division as well as a scholarship to attend the 2009 summer intensive program at Pointe Park University in Pittsburgh, PA.
Alison Duffy: Alison was awarded a scholarship to attend the 2009 summer program at the Kinetics Dance Theatre in Ellicott City, MD. 
Kaitlyn Glenn and Morgan Pearson: both received scholarships to attend the 2009 Dance Educators of America National Convention in New York.
