Cecil Dancenter has been providing quality dance training in Cecil County since 1985 and is a well-respected, family oriented dance school that promotes confidence, self-esteem and brings the love of dance to its students. We currently provide over 100 dance classes each week to well over 500 students. We offer classes in ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, modern, musical theatre, and lyrical. Our class size average is 12 students per class, allowing students to receive personalized attention. Our spacious studios are equipped with raised, non-skid floors to prevent injuries. Each dance studio incorporates observation windows so parents can observe students and instructors from the lobby without disrupting the class.
We offer beginning through advanced instruction for children, teens, and adults. Our children's program is designed to help children grow in the areas of coordination, strength, flexibility, and rhythm through the use of fun music and props. From the children's program, students are promoted through an array of levels where proper technique, style and musicality is emphasized. We also offer beginning and intermediate classes for teens and adults. These classes are taught in a friendly and positive atmosphere where students can meet new people, get some exercise and have fun! Some of our students choose to enhance their love of dance through our 'themed' birthday or special occasion parties. Children have a blast whether they choose the 'Ballerina' or the 'Jazz it Up' parties.
We pride ourselves on our outstanding faculty. Our specialized dance instructors have degrees and/or exceptional performance experience in their allotted fields. Making dance rewarding and fun is a top priority for our staff. We also encourage self-motivation, positive thinking and respect while helping each student reach their greatest potential.
For our pre-professional students, Cecil Dancenter offers many opportunities such as master classes and workshops with guest teachers, field trips to professional performances, outreach participation and performance opportunities on site and in the field. Our dancers have been invited to perform for the Cecil County Public Schools, Maryland Dance Festivals, Mrs. Maryland/Delaware Pageants, Delaware Dance Festivals, in the televised Boscov’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the televised Cherry Blossom Parade, and at Cal Ripken Stadium as well as at nursing homes and private functions. Our dancers have been recognized for excellence at the Maryland and Delaware Dance Festivals, where they received numerous awards and scholarships.
Many of our students have received scholarships to pre-professional summer intensive dance programs. We are also proud of the achievements of our alumni who have graduated from prestigious colleges and/or are working professionally in the field.
Cecil Dancenter houses a senior performing company, Cecil Dance Theatre (CDT) and a junior performing company, Cecil Junior Dance Troupe (CJDT). CDT has established a professional and well respected reputation in our community. They perform two full-scaled productions each year at Cecil Community College and have been recognized for exceptional sell-out performances. Our patrons continuously express their gratitude and pleasure at our unique and enjoyable way of bringing the Arts to Cecil County and surrounding areas. Participation in either of these companies is for experienced dancers and by invitation only.
In our over 25 years of dance instruction, we've taught thousands of students to enjoy the art of dance.
